Mbouda Facts
Mbouda is located in the West Province, or Province de L'Ouest. It sits, nearly a mile above sea level at 4,701 feet above. There are around 40,000 people in the surrounding Mbouda area. Nearby towns include: Babdjou, Ladotio, Bamessing, Bagam, Bamendjinda, and Babete. The local time in this part of Africa is UTC +1. Many people in this area speak French to help you ease travel through the capital of Bamboutos, a few less speak English. Other larger cities near Mbouda in Cameroon include Bamenda, Bafoussam, and Nkongsamba. Bamenda is the largest with nearly half a million people, mostly from the Tikar ethnic group.
Health and AIDS
AIDS has become increasingly prevelent in Mbouda, as reported by its local hospitals. The rates of AIDS taken in a survey by the US National Institute of Health, noticed an infection rate of 3.3%, less than half of the Cameroon average, but rising. There was also a strong correlation between HIV existance and Syphilis in Mbouda. Thanks to this study a variety of AIDS prevention programs and education was put into place in Mbouda.
Football / Soccer in Mbouda
Mbouda does have a local soccer team Bamboutos FC de Mbouda. Bambostos FC is a member of the Cameroon Federation of Football. They play home games in the Stade de Mbouda. Unfortunately, the team was relegated two divisions in 2007 because of a match fixing scandal between Koss Roger and Nkouma Rim.
